About Full Steam

Full Steam is our version of a classic dice game, put on rails. You have three throws of five dice. Before anything can move you need an engine, a six. Then a driver, a five. Then a guard, a four. They must come in that order, but one throw can bring more than one: a six, a five and a four together set the whole crew at once.

Each crew member you find is set aside, so later throws use fewer dice. Once the crew is complete, the two dice that are left are the freight. Their total is what the train carries, from two to twelve, and the pay plate shows what each load is worth.

If the crew is complete with throws to spare, you choose: stand with the freight you have, or throw both freight dice again and take whatever comes. We show the choice with the better long-run return each time. If three throws go by without a full crew, the train never leaves and the round returns nothing.

How a round works

  1. Choose a stake: 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 or 250 bolts.
  2. Press Throw. Any six, then five, then four is set aside as engine, driver and guard.
  3. Throw again, up to three throws in all, until the crew is complete.
  4. With the crew complete, the other two dice are the freight. Stand, or throw them again if you have throws left.
  5. The freight total pays as shown on the pay plate. No full crew means nothing back.

Everything below is what comes back for a stake of one bolt; multiply by your stake. The numbers are read from the same file the game uses.

Fair play

Every result is drawn by your browser's own random number generator at the moment you press the button. Nothing is adjusted for your bolts, your history, the time of day or how long you have played, and the game cannot see who you are. Over a long run every stall returns a little less than it takes, as games of chance do; bolts have no cash value, so nothing real is lost or won.
